Basics of the Christian Faith

DAY 13 OF 13

… and I believe in the life everlasting. Amen.

And this is eternal life: that people can know you, the only true God, and that they can know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.” (John 17:3, ERV).

The Bible starts with a creation that was “very good” and where the first humans lived in perfect harmony with their Creator. It ends with a wonderful vision of the future God has in store for His children, which is even better. The book of Revelation tells us that in this new creation, there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain. And the best of all, “God Himself will be with them and will be their God” (Revelation 21:3).

The world around us is quite different from this ideal. Sin has entered God’s good creation, leading to pain and death. Nature is suffering. Humans are suffering from diseases, natural disasters, broken relationships or other misery. And in the end, they all die.

But the Bible offers hope. There is a way to escape this hopelessness: by knowing the only true God. Jesus Christ has revealed God to us and made it possible to restore our relationship with Him. When we are freed from our bondage to sin and death, we will live forever.

This is beautifully summarized in a well-known Bible verse: “Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him would not be lost but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).

This is the basis of the Christian faith. Do you believe in Jesus?
