You Reflect God

How many times a day do you see yourself in a mirror? When you first wake up and brush your teeth, wash your face, wash your hands, in the rearview mirror in the car ride to school, maybe in your locker at school, in the bathroom again at school, at night before bed… We see ourselves in a mirror multiple times a day, yet we still often ask the question, “Who am I?” No matter our age, most of us wonder about who we really are from time to time.

In this reading plan, we’re going to explore the things we know to be true about who we are. Culture tells us that we can change who we are based on how we feel, but God says something different. He created each of us in His image, and we want to base our identity on that fact. If we don’t know our identity, so many other things in life get thrown off: our relationships, our purpose, our sexuality, our security, our confidence, our mission. If we get confused about our identity, life becomes more difficult and chaotic; but when we know who we are, we can walk in confidence, in love, in truth, and with purpose.

So if you find yourself asking, “Who am I?” then start with this fact: I was created in the image of God. When God created man and woman in Genesis 1, He created them in His image. He made us as walking images of Himself in the world. You can look in the mirror today and know that you are a picture of God in the world.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for creating me in Your image. It’s easy to lose my identity in the confusion of the world we’re living in. Remind me that I was created to show You to the world and that I am made in Your likeness. Amen.
