What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus?Sample
Following Jesus means to listen to His voice
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)
Jesus compares Himself with a shepherd and His followers with sheep. They recognize His voice and follow Him — not other shepherds. So, if we want to follow the Good Shepherd, we need to learn to recognize His voice! There are others, who want to lead us astray, and we need to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God” (1 John 4:1).
The best way to get to know Jesus’ voice is to read and study His Word, the Bible. In this book, God reveals so much about Himself, about His plans for humanity, and about the right way of life. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to follow the directions He gives you in the Bible. Take time to read it through from beginning to end; not just once, but over and over. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment as to what is sound Bible-based teaching and what is false teaching about God. This helps you to find the right way in life — following the Good Shepherd.
About this Plan
“I have decided to follow Jesus…”, a well-known Christian hymn sings. Jesus Himself says, “Whoever does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:38). But what does this phrase mean? How can we follow Jesus? What are the costs and what are the benefits of doing so? This reading plan helps you to answer these questions, and more.
