Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture MemorizationSample

A Masterpiece in Disguise
Have you ever owned something that you thought was junk but it turned out to be more valuable than you thought? Maybe it's that Pokemon card collection, or maybe the beanie babies your parents told you would one day be worth millions. Have you ever looked at something and not seen the value in it? For most of us, the answer is yes, almost daily. We look in the mirror and never see the true value that God has placed inside of us.
Maybe when you look in the mirror you ask yourself: why am I not a little taller? What if I had this color of eyes? Or, if I could just lose/gain a few pounds, then I'd be happy.
But the truth is—you are a masterpiece. You are a human being that is wonderfully made and the Artist who created you is the God of the universe. He is proud of His work—He’s proud of you.
Pray…
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for being my Maker. Thank you for creating me and making me who I am. I pray that I would see myself and your children the way you do. I choose to trust that you alone make me beautiful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Read…
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Psalm 139:14-16 NLT
Consider…
David, just like us, noted his tendency to forget the value God placed in each of us. So, what we see in Psalm 139 is David reminding himself that he is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. But why so often do we fail to see the value in ourselves and others? Why is it so hard to trust the Artist? Wrestle with these questions. Do you see yourself the way God sees you? Beautifully, fearfully, and wonderfully made in His image? Why or why not?
Practice…
We are working on internalizing God's truth in this Bible Plan. Focus on our memory verse today, especially verse 10: "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
Repeat it, write it down, put it on a note card, make it a screensaver on your phone—do something to intentionally create opportunities for yourself to be reminded of this truth. You can internalize this. You are God’s masterpiece.
Listen…
Set a timer for 5 minutes.
Find someplace quiet and turn on the song The Artist by Life.Church Worship.
Create Space in your mind and heart to listen and hear from God.
Ask Him to remind you who you are as you listen to the words of the song.
When you get distracted, come back to Ephesians 2:10 and meditate on those words.

About this Plan

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
