Key People: Key People From The BibleSample

Abraham
Many things happen in Abraham’s life in chapters 18-23. Most importantly, Abraham has the son God had promised him. There is a twist in the story in chapter 22 when God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, but stops him before he kills Isaac once he demonstrates that he is willing to obey God even when it is very difficult. This chapter sets the stage for the generations that will follow Abraham.
Abraham is taking steps to make sure his descendants will continue to follow God. The choice of a spouse is one of life’s most important decisions! Abraham wanted his son to marry someone who would support him in his relationship with God and raise their children in a godly way. It easy to become distracted by less important things like finding a spouse with wealth, good looks, or a fun personality. There’s nothing wrong with those things, but godly-character is most important, especially when thinking of the generations to come.
