The 7 Whys of EasterSample

What Does Jesus’ Death Mean For Us?
Jesus’ sacrifice for us means three main things we get to celebrate.
- We can be forgiven and granted eternal life if we will receive the gift of salvation he offers. A gift must be opened. We must receive by faith the gift he offers by grace (Ephesians 2:8–10).
- We should value ourselves as he values us. Our Father decided we were worth the death of his Son. No greater valuation could be placed on us.
- We should serve him in gratitude for such grace. Not so he will love us, but because he already does.
The prophet Isaiah summarized it centuries before Jesus was even born:
He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
“Eucharist,” another word for Communion, means thankfulness. Whenever you take Communion, return to the cross it signifies. Decades after Christ had died, Paul says: “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).
As Christ poured out his blood and broke his own body for our sake, we should praise him. He died to satisfy the eternal consequences of sin. Remember his death for us. Receive and share his grace with gratitude for such love.
Where do you need his grace most today? Confess your sins and receive His gift of mercy and grace, knowing that you are washed anew by his blood.
