Blessings of the Generous
Devotion:
A lie of today’s society is that your giving will leave you poorer. God illustrates, instructs, and assures us countless times in His word that in the kingdom of God - your giving will always lead to blessing. Some of the many ways we receive blessing through generosity are enlargement, increase, and overflow.
The world of the generous continuously increases, but the world of the stingy continually decreases. We are not on this earth to live small-minded or to build up significance only for ourselves. God has placed every person on this earth with a destiny, purpose, and kingdom-advancing assignment built into their design. One of the ways that we connect with our purpose is through generosity. We cannot pay our way into greater relationships, greater depth of revelation, greater insight, or greater understanding. We enlarge our world by honouring, valuing, and investing in others. Our generosity is not limited to financial giving. Still, as we give time, love, honour, and finances - we place an investment into the resource of heaven that widens the funnel for blessing to flow through. The extent of their giving limits a stingy person’s access to blessing. A generous person holds open the access for blessing to flow.
Part of the journey as a believer is to understand that everything we have comes from God - we are stewards, not owners. The life we lead, the people we have relationships with, the children we raise, and the money we have, are all ours to steward. God has graciously gifted us the ability to choose. We choose how we spend our time, talents, and treasures. We move past a poverty mindset, a mindset of lack, by entrusting everything we have back to God, faithfully using what He has given us according to His purposes. Often the underlying hesitation to generosity is a trust issue towards God. So the question is now - can God trust you? For those who want to influence thousands, can God trust you to influence the few people in your workplace? For those who want to build significant wealth, can God trust you with the little capital you have now? For those who want to see great moves of God in our generation, can God trust you with your own time or family? God promises us increase and overflow when we choose to be faithful with what we have right now.
We have a choice to limit or access the blessing and fullness of Heaven’s resources through our generosity. God promises us that we will never be poorer by giving, but our worlds will be enlarged, and our giving will have a multiplied impact that glorifies God.
Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for all that You have given me. I’m sorry if I have been stingy, and I repent for any significance I have tried to build up for myself. Help me and teach me to steward what You have given me with a cheerful and generous heart.
Amen.
