You Can Change Your Atmosphere!Sample
Whom should you trust?
There is no doubt the world has gone crazy. Very little seems to make logical sense on the political and social scene. The Bible says it so well: “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient” (Ephesians 2:1-2, NIV). The prince of the power of the air has clearly abducted the hearts and minds of so many people. What should we do about all this mess?
A simple answer came to me in the middle of the night: trust in the Lord. It may sound a little simplistic and perhaps kind of crazy, but these verses from Proverbs jumped into my conscious mind: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV).
I have to admit that this past year has been a series of trying times. The COVID-19 catastrophe, political turmoil, lockdowns, wars, and rumors of war have destabilized so many of us. Over and over again, I’ve asked myself, “Whom can I trust?”
Doctors can’t seem to agree on prevention or treatment, some of the media has lost its way, people want to defund the police, and prejudice still rears its ugly head around the world. On a more personal note, I struggled with a large staff having to be downsized, new technologies needed to reach people during the lockdowns, and the responses to some of those difficult decisions. Over and over again, I’ve had to cry out to God for wisdom, strength, and His Spirit.
Have you struggled with the same desperate cry? Your series of challenges may be different from mine, but I know that God has an encouraging word for all of us. The only way to change the atmosphere of our lives is to trust God. We can’t stop all the chaos of the world, but we can get off the world’s roller coaster by trusting in the Lord with all our hearts and not leaning on our own understanding, perceptions, or fears.
God has got this, and He’s got you. You are a miracle!
