Be Honest - Proverbs 24
I believe honesty is an essential quality of building a great life. Maybe it’s “the” essential quality because it’s impossible to build solid relationships and gain anyone’s trust without honesty. It’s just a simple matter of always telling the truth and avoiding deception and exaggeration.
I always told my kids, “Don’t lie to me. Tell me the truth, even if you’re ashamed and embarrassed about the mistake, and I can probably help you out of any situation.” Every parent knows that little speech and how disappointing it is to find out when your kids, or anyone, haven’t been honest. We’re tempted to be dishonest when we’re afraid of the consequences of the mistake we’ve made, but it’s much better to be truthful and face the consequences with humility. Even if you’ve stumbled in this area, get back up and start being honest. Watch God help you and reward your commitment to the truth.
“Father, search my heart and show me if there has been any area where I’ve been deceptive. I want to live in the light and walk in honesty. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
