I'm So Blessed: A 3-Day Devotional With Cain

DAY 2 OF 3

Life is full of - “I remember where I was when…” moments. One of those moments for me was the summer of 1994. I was just over two years old, but somehow, I have a memory of going to the dollar theater a town over to see “The Lion King”. It was a little strip mall in Decatur, AL and I remember there was a long outdoor corridor that felt like it stretched for miles. I was holding my dad’s hand as he led us into the theater. A black screen that felt bigger than the night sky suddenly filled with colors, and animals knelt to the sound of Elton John singing “The Circle of Life” and the coronation of prince Simba. A few minutes later we see Mufasa explaining to Simba where his kingdom reaches.

“Everything the light touches..” He says.

Now having watched the movie countless times since then, I give more meaning to that scene than I did as a kid. Mufasa didn’t say “my kingdom,” he said “our kingdom,” Simba, as a child of Mufasa and ultimately heir to His throne, had the exact same ownership of that land that Mufasa did. Without having to earn it - Simba was given access to the power of the king.

The Bible says these two things:

  1. “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:7)
  2. “And if we are children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ..” (Romans 8:17a)

Growing up with two pastors for parents, the terminology and concept of being a child of God was very present in our home. Lately I see it and hear it more and more in culture. T-shirts, bumper stickers, you name it - people all over the world proudly say they are a “child of God”. And while it does seem like the title of “child of God” is more common than ever - it doesn’t seem like the attitude that should be synonymous with that lineage is quite as common.

As not only heirs of God, but joint heirs with Jesus - we are given dominion over his kingdom. To say that you are a child of God does not only mean that your Father God watches over you and goes before you, but also that you have His authority on this side of Heaven.

So, when you sing this song, every time you say “I’m a child of God” - you’re not just saying that you are His, you are declaring that what He has is yours!

Challenge:

Today I want you to walk through your day with the mindset that you are the heir to the throne of Heaven. No matter what struggle or circumstance you face, God your Father is in command overall and as such, has given you authority to overcome it. The King of Glory has access to everything you need - and it brings Him great joy to give it to you.
