Baptism Is a Big DealSample

Your baptism is a big deal.
Do you think your baptism is a big deal? Big enough to stand up and clap for, to shed a tear over, to celebrate annually? I do. While Baptism is outwardly very simple (just some water and some words), what Baptism does for us is profound.
I think of Baptism like my phone charger. It doesn’t seem like a big deal. It’s a skinny cord that can get lost in the bottom of a backpack or slip between my car seats. The cord seems insignificant compared to the smartphone in my hands or the power source in the wall. Until you remember that the cord connects one to the other, a way to get all that power in the outlet over to the device that needs it. No wonder we never go on vacation without bringing a charger!
I love that picture of Baptism. Baptism is one of God’s ways of connecting you to Jesus. This is why many Baptism passages use words like through Baptism or in Baptism. Here’s a classic example: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:4). How was the old, lost, unsaved you buried with Jesus? Through baptism!
So celebrate your baptism today! Because your baptism, according to the Bible, is a big deal!
