Christmas... Make It Make SenseSample
What Does All This Mean For Me?
As we said, the last few days may have been quite a lot to take in. Well done for sticking it through! Today, we want to unpack more thoughts. There are a bunch of questions in today’s devotional. You might like to write your answers down or go through this with a friend, parent, or youth leader. Whatever works for you!
1. Hebrews 1:1-2
Thought: Jesus’ time on earth presents God’s full and final revelation of Himself to us. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God.
Question: If God is ultimately ‘self-defined’ through Jesus, what does that practically mean for our journey of understanding Him?
2. Galatians 4:4-5
Thought: God sent his son at the exact moment in human history. Timing is everything!
Question: Have you ever considered why Jesus came when He did? What implications does that have?
3. Philippians 2:8
Thought: It is remarkable enough that God would come to earth in human form. Even more crazy is that God came with humility and defined Himself through obedience. Two very unfashionable traits these days…
Question: If Jesus defined himself through humility and obedience, what does that mean for followers of Jesus?
4. Isaiah 9:6
Thought: This beautiful prophecy presents a 360-degree view of the nature of our Savior. This is our God. Take a moment to read the verses out loud and reflect on what is being said here.
Question: What do the four names given here mean to you? If God is your wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, how might that change how you approach Him?
5. Titus 3:4-7
Thought: Jesus’ coming to the earth, death, and resurrection mean that our standing before God is no longer based on our human effort but on the achievement of Christ on the cross and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.
Question: Where are you relying on yourself instead of Jesus? How can you put your focus back on Him today?
