The Real Purpose of ChristmasSample
The Greatest Gift of All
At this time of year, people think of the miraculous moment Jesus was born as a baby in a manger in a Bethlehem stable. That little Babe in Bethlehem truly was (and is) the eternal, ever-existent God Almighty, who came to us in human flesh so that He could dwell among men and purchase our salvation. Now it is our God-given responsibility to help our family, friends, and acquaintances come to Jesus.
Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow...and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord....”
Notice the verse says that a day is coming when “every knee should bow.” The word “bow” means to bow low. Here it pictures a person who bends his knee in acknowledgment of God’s authority. It is an action that expresses honor, respect, humility, and worship.
Indeed, a day is coming when those in Heaven, earth, and hell will bow their knees in honor of, respect for, humility toward, and in the worship of Jesus Christ. It is not a question of if people will bow their knees to Jesus; it is only a question of when, how, and where they will do it. Will they freely do it while still living on this earth? Or will they do it from the vantage point of hell?
A day is emphatically coming when everyone who has ever lived will bow before Jesus as Lord of all. If you have a friend or loved one who doesn’t know Jesus, isn’t it time for you to introduce that person to Christ?
Philippians 2:11 tells us everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. The word “confess” is a compound of two Greek words. The first word means out, and the second word refers to a confession. But when it is compounded, it means to audibly, vocally, and publicly declare a fact. It also means to speak it out, yell it out, or declare it loudly. This means Heaven, earth, and hell will resound with the voices of all who have ever lived as they thunderously shout out and acknowledge: “JESUS IS LORD!”
As we close this devotional together, I ask you to let the Holy Spirit help you speak the truth. If you are willing, He will empower you to speak to your loved ones. Whether you interact with these precious souls every day, or they live far away, their eternal destiny may depend on your willingness to share the Good News of Jesus with them!
Isn’t this what Christmas is really all about?
