Engage in Spiritual Warfare
When my wife and I were starting our church, there was a month or two when we just couldn’t stop fighting. It was all petty stuff. It was a very stressful season and little did we know that we were on the verge of doing something huge for God. Finally, in the middle of one of our arguments, we looked at each other and recognized that what we were going through was spiritual. There was a real enemy that really wanted us to fail. He knew the best way to take out the ministry was to take out the marriage. We had turned on each other instead of fighting a single spiritual enemy. We realized in that moment that the struggle was spiritual.
There is a spiritual world that is involved in what we see in the natural. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not real. The spiritual world is as real as the air you breathe. There is a war happening that you can win in your prayer life, and Jesus addresses this in the Lord’s prayer. He says, “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” This is the moment that prayer turns from a time with God to a time of waging war on the enemy. Prayer isn’t just communion with God, it is also confrontation with the enemy. While the devil and his fallen angels are real, we’ve also been given authority over them. Through the name of Jesus, every demon has to flee. Learning to engage in spiritual warfare is a game-changer in your prayer life. It is in this time of my prayer journey that I pray to God statements like:
“Satan you have no right to my life or to my family.”
“I command every demonic presence to leave my home.”
“Help me to resist every attack of the enemy.”
“Cover me with the full armor of God so that I can stand against any power of this world.”
It’s important that we make sure we’re always praying using the name of Jesus. Our name or our words have little power when they are not backed by the name of Jesus. His name is a powerful weapon that scares the enemy because everything must submit to the name of Jesus.
