Discover Your Purpose & CallingSample
Once we identify our giftings, it can be hard to move forward. There are an endless number of “yeah, but” scenarios:
- You live in a small town, and the possibility of pursuing your passion is limited.
- You might feel like you missed your time. Now you’re too old and it’s too late.
- You feel like you don’t have time to devote to the process.
- [Insert hundreds of other reasons you may feel stuck.]
I get it. I’ve felt the same way. Perhaps your story is similar to mine. I was passed over, forgotten about, looked down on, and a nobody in the eyes of people whose approval I was trying to win. I was working hard, but I was getting nowhere. My professional life was a growing string of failures, and my hopes were dashed.
Author Jeff Goins again accurately describes this season of my life:
”Every calling is marked by a season of insignificance, a period when nothing seems to make sense. This is a time of wandering in the wilderness, when you feel alone and misunderstood. To the outsider, such a time looks like failure, as if you are grasping at air or simply wasting time. But the reality is this is the most important experience a person can have if they make the most of it.”
If that resonates with you, let’s pray and invite God in right now.
Dear God,
I come before you today seeking guidance and direction as I try to discover my purpose and calling in life. I know that you have a plan for me, and I trust in your wisdom and grace to lead me toward the path that you have chosen for me.
I pray that you would give me the strength and courage to follow wherever you lead, even when the road ahead is uncertain or difficult. Help me to trust in your love and faithfulness, and to know that you are with me every step of the way.
I ask that you would open my eyes to the opportunities and experiences that you have placed in my path, and that you would give me the wisdom and discernment to recognize and embrace your will for my life.
I hold onto the promise of Romans 12:2, which says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." I pray that you would renew my mind and help me to see things from your perspective, so that I may better understand your plan for my life.
I also cling to the words of Psalm 32:8, which says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." I pray that you would teach me and guide me and that you would reveal your plan for me through your Word and through the counsel of your people.
Thank you, God, for loving me and for having a purpose and plan for my life. I pray that you would use me to bring glory to your name and to make a difference in the world. In your precious name, I pray, Amen.

About this Plan
God created you exactly the way He wanted—and for a critically important purpose. You have been given unique abilities to serve Him and make an impact on the world. But the world has tricked us into playing a comparison game and in so doing it’s easy to miss the specific purpose and calling that God has for you and I.
