Pneuma Life: Holy Spirit in YouSample

Pneuma Life: Holy Spirit in You

DAY 1 OF 7

Pneuma Life...

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit
John 7:38-39

Today, the wind is exploding through the four gigantic eucalyptus trees that stand directly behind our home.

These trees are astir, dancing mightily. Birds are soaring effortlessly on the lifts of wind above the trees. Clouds are in a constant state of intricate sculpture and movement. On the ground, leaves and debris are flying every which way. And this is where our brief study regarding the Holy Spirit begins.

Missionary Reinhard Bonnke writes:

“The Spirit is the atmosphere of heaven itself, and heaven comes down here with Him. He is…the wind of heaven, blowing through our stuffy traditions and stagnation and bringing times of refreshing on all.”*

So, let’s continue—why Pneuma Life?

Pneuma is the Greek New Testament word for Spirit, meaning: Breath, breeze, a current of air, wind, or spirit. Compare the English: pneumonia and pneumatology. It also comes as no surprise that the Hebrew Old Testament word for Spirit, Ruah, is translated exactly the same.

Think of it!

  • The sweetness of a baby’s breath.
  • Your lungs filling with the clarity of mountain air.
  • A balmy tropical breeze.
  • A hurricane-force wind.
  • The still, quiet, and holy hush in times of reflection.

These are the descriptors of the third Person of the Trinity—the Holy Spirit. We cannot see Him, but we can surely feel and sense Him and see His movement all around and within us. Just as the wind, He cannot be caught. He cannot be grasped or manipulated. He cannot be put into a box. He most certainly is God. Co-equal, co-existent, co-eternal, and co-divine with the Father and the Son.

Yet, there is more. God’s Word clearly states that this same Holy Spirit—God Himself—resides in every individual who receives Jesus by faith into their lives. The same Holy Spirit who worked through Christ as He walked the earth healing bodies, raising the dead, delivering from the demonic, restoring hearts, and ultimately drawing multitudes back to the Father.

As we surrender to the Spirit’s work within us, He will cultivate the same lovely fruit of love, joy, and peace that we view in Jesus’ life. And with His empowerment, we can learn and be available to walk in His supernatural gifts.

What does the Holy Spirit mean to your life?
