Uncommon Love

DAY 9 OF 14

COME, SEE

The Judean Desert, where the city of Samaria was located, was hot. Everyone would avoid the unbearable sun in the middle of the day. This is where John 4 begins. A woman, trying to avoid the judgemental eyes of her community, goes to draw some water from the well and encounters Jesus.

The woman is taken aback because Jesus should avoid her according to Jewish law, but instead, he asks her for a drink of water from the well. Jewish men did not speak to Samaritans, let alone a Samaritan woman! Jesus goes beyond convention, beyond his schedule to begin a conversation with her.

Instead of being shamed for her past, she meets an uncommon love that accepts her as she is. Jesus reveals Himself to her, and her world is changed.

Immediately she ran back to her city, to the community that had shunned her, telling them to come and see the man she’d just met at the well!

'Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah? John 4:29, (NLT)

When we encounter God’s uncommon love for us, we are moved to go into our family, community, and city and tell them to come and see! Anyone can witness God's goodness and mercy; we need only invite them to come and meet Him for themselves.

Daily Prayer

God, thank you for the extravagant love you have for me. Thank you for encountering me at my point of need. Help me to love the people in my world like you love me. Help me to see the people in my world that I may not normally see, and help me invite them to encounter your love today.

About this Plan

Uncommon Love

The Bible speaks of a love that is unfathomable. God’s love is limitless, offered freely to all people at all times. It is an uncommon love. Over the next 14 days, we will go on a journey of first understanding His uncommon love for us and then how His uncommon love empowers and compels us to live.
