Can I Really Overcome?Sample
A Matter of Perspective
Life can be hard. Times are uncertain. On a global scale, it seems like we bounce from one crisis to the next—wars, famines, hurricanes, droughts, pandemics, earthquakes, fires, economic turmoil, and more.
Life’s difficult on a personal level, too. A recent poll by the United States Census Bureau found that 60-percent of American adults felt nervous, anxious, or on edge. Almost 50-percent felt depressed and hopeless.
Clearly, our world is desperate, systems are broken, and people are hurting. In Romans 8, Paul speaks pointedly to this reality. He neither candy-coats life nor minimizes our pain. Instead, he offers us perspective.
Paul reminds us—life is an eternal proposition. Our life on this earth will evaporate as quickly as vapor in the grand scheme (James 4:14). Yet, there is healing for us in our pain today, because we have ultimate hope through Christ in a million tomorrows.
Today's verse urges us to remember this life isn't all there is! The proposition for the believer is eternal joy, glory, and life. By elevating our perspective and focusing on eternity, we find hope for today's hardships because we are not alone.
As you engage with God’s word:
● What is God saying to you?
● What does it mean to you?
● What action step do you need to take?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
