Ramadan: Prayer Guide | Releasing the Light of Christ to the Muslim World

DAY 6 OF 30

Not Slaves, but Sons

In Islam, Muslims see themselves as slaves of Allah. They exist to serve his will and attempt to please him. It is not a loving relationship but servitude to a silent god.

This is in such great contrast to what we have in Christ. The Bible specifically states that we are not slaves and that our portion is not to live in fear of God. It’s quite the opposite. God calls us His own and gives us the title of “sons.” With that title comes all the benefits of the relationship between a father and his children.

The God of the Universe desires a personal relationship with each of us and cares about us. He’s invested in the details. We talk to God, and He talks back. We can approach Him with the casual familiarity of a child with their dad. When Muslims have been introduced to this idea, brows have often furrowed in confusion because it is such a foreign concept. Sometimes curiosity is sparked. Ultimately, as human beings, desiring connection is in our God-given nature. The walls of religion built between ourselves and God must be torn down for us to encounter Him as our Father.

Prayer

Lord, I lift up everyone currently under the shroud of Islam and pray that they would find freedom in Christ; that the desire for connection that You’ve placed inside each of them would not be satisfied with anything less than an intimate relationship with You. I pray that many would realize that they don’t have to live as slaves but have the invitation to join Your family and become a son.
