DAY 5 OF 5

Do New Things

What if you decided to cut out junk food by deciding to stop eating ALL food? That sounds crazy, right? Eventually, you’d get so hungry that you would eat the first thing you saw or the thing you craved the most. Our bodies need food for fuel, and depriving ourselves of too much can lead to impulsive food choices. You might wind up eating a whole bag of chips or ten candy bars in a row – not only would you feel physically sick, but you’d probably feel defeated because you gave in to the urge to eat junk again.

Our souls can be a lot like our stomachs. We can eliminate the “junk food” in our lives – sin and addictions – but if we don’t replace it with things that are good for us, like God’s truth, we will crash and burn. We are called to not just eliminate the old ways but to replace them. Do not just eliminate the old negative friends; replace them with positive ones. Do not just stop the destructive actions but start doing some uplifting ones.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to replace the old addictions and actions with things that will bring me joy and honor you.
