Seven Weapons of Spiritual Warfare

DAY 6 OF 9

Helmet of Salvation

When a soldier goes into battle, one of the most important pieces of armor they take is a helmet.

A soldier’s helmet protects his head. There are so many ways a soldier can be injured in the head in the heat of battle. From knocks and bangs as they race through enemy fire, to bullets, shrapnel, or in days gone by, sword thrusts. Any injury to the head can be deadly whether it is concussion, physical wounds, or death.

Likewise, in the Christian army we need a helmet, and Paul has likened salvation to a soldier’s helmet.

The hope of salvation protects our mind and our thinking as we remember at all times that we have been saved. The knowledge of salvation keeps us steady and unable to be “concussed” or “injured” by the attacks of the evil one. When we remember that we have been saved by Christ, we can stand strong and not fear any opposition.

We have the need for endurance if we are to be saved, and knowing we have this salvation keeps us strong.

The path to salvation is not an easy one, which is why Jesus urges His people to strive to enter by the narrow door. He also says it will be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to be saved.

Salvation exists only in one person and that is Jesus Christ. He is the gate and the door of our salvation. We enter salvation through Jesus by entering into His death and resurrection by baptism. Without Christ, there is no salvation and this is mentioned in a number of places in the Bible. Anyone else who offers salvation apart from Christ is like a thief trying to enter by the window rather than the door.

It is only by the grace of God through faith that we have salvation in Jesus Christ. When we call on His name He will save us. So, go to the door and knock. Go to Jesus and ask Him to show you the way to salvation and to keep you on His path. After all, God wants all people to come to salvation.

Remember then that you are saved by the grace and gift of God.

Call to action:

Focus your mind on the salvation you have in Christ. Do not let thoughts of doubt come in to try and take it away. You are saved by the grace of God through holding fast your faith in Jesus Christ.
