Reduce Your Stress by Praying the Lord’s Prayer

DAY 2 OF 5

Matthew 6:9 "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name"

Worship Your Way to Peace

Have you ever wondered why God invited us to worship Him? Is He some insecure being who needs a constant “Atta boy” to support His ego? Is He some egotistical being who’s only happy as we praise and applaud Him? No.

God invites us to worship Him because we become like what or who we worship. (Psalm 115:8). We are changed and transformed into His image as we worship God. As we praise Him, we experience more peace and less stress. This is why in the second phrase of the Lord’s prayer, Jesus invites us to worship and praise God with the words, “Hallowed be Your Name.”

One of the best ways to worship daily is to choose a name for Jesus and praise Him for what that name reveals about His character. When we understand His character, we are able to rest and trust that God is indeed good. As a result, our fear diminishes, and our faith rises. For example, as you praise God for being the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), you are reminded that He is the God who delights in giving us peace. Jesus provides peace with God the Father, peace with others, and peace in our souls. The next time you feel completely frazzled and stressed out, try praising Jesus for being the Prince of Peace who promises to give you peace when you ask.

Pause and Reflect: What are your three favorite names for Jesus? How might praising Jesus for what those names reveal about His character calm your stress levels?

Pray: Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name! Thank you for the invitation to worship and praise You. I realize more and more that as I worship You, You calm my fears and quiet my stress. Lord God, I praise You that You are the Almighty God and the giver of peace. Thank You that You promise to give me the peace that passes all understanding as I praise and worship You.
