Bigger Than Me- Teach Your Child How to Deal With Challenges and Bullying

DAY 3 OF 4

Take Action!

Step Two: Help your child create a game plan to fight back!

Fighting back signifies proper steps your child can take in order to get over the current challenge that is standing in front of them.

We can learn a lot from the David and Goliath story in the Bible. It teaches us that we don't have to face the challenges alone. We can ask God for His Divine power to help us overcome.

Now it's time to take action steps and speak up. For example if your child is being bullied in school, it's important to teach them how to speak up to the bully without getting into any altercations. This act of speaking up can be likened to the story of David using a slingshot to launch a rock. Just as David did, your child can use their voice to launch a rock and stand up for themselves.

Before speaking up, make sure that your child is prepared. If possible, role-play scenarios with them so they feel more confident and prepared when the situation arises. They should also set up firm boundaries for how they want to be treated and communicate these boundaries clearly and confidently.

Remind them that it takes a lot of courage to speak up and they should be proud of themselves no matter what the result is. Reaffirm that they have the right to protect themselves in any way necessary and that you support them in this endeavor.

If speaking up doesn't seem like an option, encourage your child to talk with you or a trusted adult about what is happening. Openly communicating about their feelings and concerns can help them feel less isolated and provide them with a sense of support.

No matter what course of action you decide to take, the most important thing is giving your child the courage and confidence they need to stand up for themselves in tough situations. It's not easy, but through patience, practice, and support, your child can take a stand and empower themselves in the face of bullying or other challenging situations.
