People of Light, People of Darkness: The Last Apostle | 1 John 1:5-2:2Sample

God is light. God is life. So what do people of light and life look like? That’s the question of 1 John. It was all the more important because some people claimed to be people of light and life but only deceived themselves and confused others in the process.
John tells us people of life and light confess their sins and seek to walk in obedience. People in darkness and death deny their sins and seek to walk how they want. They claim to have fellowship with God and each other but do not. They claim they are without sin (1 John 1:8-10). They claim to have fellowship with God but walk in darkness (1 John 1:6). They claim they know God but are disobedient (1 John 2:4). And we’ll find out later that they claim they love God but hate other Christians (1 John 2:9; 4:20). How about you? Do you resemble a person of light and life or death and darkness?
About this Plan

Near the end of his life, John, the last living apostle, wrote a Gospel. And it seems some people were distorting it. John writes to believers caught in the aftermath, bringing clarity and commentary on what he wrote. He shows them what it looks like to be people of light and life instead of people of death and darkness. This plan takes us through 1 John and how to live in the face of distorted Christianity.
