Strong: The Promise of 1 Peter 5:10 For God’s Daughters

DAY 4 OF 6

Day 4: Secure in Christ

For years, I interacted with others while I had lingering feelings of uncertainty as to how they received me. Thoughts of inadequacy would continually swirl around in my mind, but as an outwardly confident extrovert, I masked this internal battle.

The doubts and questions I had about myself were an accepted part of my life experience until I discovered that God’s power could work on my insecurities to make me secure in who I was.

As women, our insecurities are often rooted in traumatic life events or crises that cause anxiety and insecurity about ordinary, routine events. My insecurities were rooted in the emotional distance I experienced from my parents in childhood. I was unsure how the God I had given my life to could stand in the midst of these feelings and fight for me.

Through 1 Peter 5:10, I discovered that security is made possible in Christ. He secures us by working by His Spirit so that we accept and trust ourselves, gain a better self-perception, and become freer in our interactions with others.

In order for this work to occur within us, we must first understand and accept that simply by being in Christ, we have access to a safe and established state and condition that is rooted in the firmness of Jesus. We have no reason to fear the opinion of others because we are kept safe in Him.

Furthermore, we are made secure through receiving and believing the truth of what God says about us as His Daughters.

He says that

We are loved: Romans 8:38–39

We are His: Isaiah 43:1

We have a purpose: Esther 4:14

Because Jesus lives within us, He will continually illuminate our minds and spirits to agree with the truths that God wants us to know about ourselves. Once this happens, our minds will become free, and our inner being and security will be further strengthened.

Finally, living under the identity of God’s daughter makes you very secure. Many women often experience much wounding in the earthly identity of being a daughter. When we know that we belong to God in this way and carry an eternal identity of being a daughter to a good and perfect father, He secures our sense of worth and value. Wherever we may be or whomever we may encounter, we bear the mark and identity of God.

Today, ponder on the truths that God wants you to embrace about yourself, trust Him to make you secure, and believe that you are His treasured daughter.

Questions for Reflection: Today, I want you to take time to reflect on the significance of your voice. What needs to shift within the view you hold of yourself so that you can begin to believe that you matter in the places and spaces where God has placed you? Take time to craft your thoughts in prayer to the Father today.

As your confidence is built up, thank God for continuing to show you who you are in Him. His truth will continually guide your life and build up the knowledge that you hold of your identity so that you can stand secure in Him.
