Lofty
“Such knowledge is too high for me.”
This is a beautiful phase that reminds to stay in awe and reverence of Gods holiness! He is above us in every possible way. He is “other”, set apart, holy. I think really wants us to grasp His otherness. One of many examples is in the last few chapters of Job (Ch. 38). God finally responds the questions of this deeply hurt man. But doesn't answer his questions at all.
He says “Who is this who darkens council with words without knowledge? Gird yourself like a man and see if you can answer these questions!” Then He asks Job things he couldn’t in a million years answer!
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? ...While the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea... walked in the recesses of the deep?”
You’re out of your league buddy! Quiet down and be in AWE! I’m trying to instill this since of awe in my daughter. Every morning when she wakes up we look out her window and sing: “if they wondering how come I’m so fly, I reply the creator of the sunrise”. I want her to look at what we can see and be in awe of what we can’t see!
If you can accurately grasp that Gods holiness and that He would be perfectly just to place all his good gifts on his son Jesus and destroying us all, then you can echo these words: “What is man that you are mindful of him or the son of man that you would visit us?!”
Everything about Him is above us! The fact that he would even care to redeem us is beyond our understanding! “Such knowledge is too high!” It’s LOFTY!
