Daniel - Standing FirmSample
Daniel had been in Babylon for many years and served in the palace. King Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, but no one could tell him what they meant, except for Daniel. Daniel helped the king and was given an important job in the royal court. Daniel helped the next king, king Belshazzar by bringing God’s message to him. When King Darius took the throne, he put three men in charge of his kingdom. One of them was Daniel.
The other men were jealous of Daniel and did not want him in charge, so they made a plan to get rid of him. They knew Daniel loved God and prayed three times every day, so they convinced the king to make a law forbidding anyone to pray to any god or human except the king for the next thirty days. Anyone who disobeyed this law would be thrown into a pit of lions. They asked the king to put this in writing so he couldn’t change his mind. The decree was issued and when Daniel read the law, he chose to still pray to God with his windows open to the city, just like he always did. When king Darius found out, he tried all day to find a way to save Daniel, but there was nothing he could do. First thing in the morning, the king got up and ran to the pit to find that God had sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions and Daniel was safe. Daniel stood firm and didn’t give up praying!
