Beneath the SurfaceSample

There always seems to be a constant stream of voices telling us who to be, what we should care about, and what we need to do with our lives. Turning to others to help you figure out who you are is great, but they shouldn't be the only source to help you discover who you are.
Today, you'll read about the time Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. When Jesus came up out of the water, a voice told Jesus You are my Son. In this moment, God's plan for humanity was clarified in Jesus, and God revealed who Jesus really was. Before Jesus even set out into the world to perform miracles and care for people in the stories we know, Jesus learned about who he was directly from God.
You might not hear the audible voice of God, but that doesn't mean God won't show you who you are. When you want to start searching for the things God says about you, you can begin with two questions: God, what do you say about me? and God, what do you want to show me about myself? In our prayers, we can invite God to show us who we are and learn how to better align our lives to God's plan for us. Through these questions, we'll see we are loved, made by God, and carefully designed. Whenever we're trying to uncover our identity, we can remember God's words help us discover who we are.

About this Plan

Who do you think you are? You might define your identity around your skills, abilities, and giftings. Those are great ways to start our journey, but they don’t quite reach the center. In the same way, an oceanographer heads into the depths to reveal the ocean's mysteries, we’ll need to prepare to dive deep to discover who we are and who we are becoming.
