The Spirit of PrayerSample
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
STAND IN WARFARE
The Bible often illustrates the Christian life as a battle against sin and Satan. We are soldiers of Christ engaged in a spiritual war (2 Corinthians 10:3-4; 2 Timothy 2:3-4). But we don’t war as the world does but in prayer.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
We need to remember a couple of things when we go into warfare in prayer. We battle not against flesh and blood, and we stand in a victory that has already been won. It’s not about winning the war but standing and maintaining the ground that has already been won by Christ in his death, resurrection, and ascension.
In warfare, don’t forget: know your identity in Christ (Ephesians 1-3) and know the position from which you pray – seated in heavenly places, with God’s perspective of the battle. Heavenly places are the position of your prayer (Ephesians 2:6). When you pray from that position you see things differently, it’s a place of victory, a place of declaration. Lastly, know that you are part of the body of Christ, you don’t war on your own (Ephesians 4).
From this knowledge, stand in prayer for yourself, your family and others.
Remember that you are called to be strong in the Lord and his mighty power, not your own. It is his power that will defeat the enemy. We are to take our stand against the devil’s schemes.
Lastly, remember that the armour of God is what Jesus won for you on the cross, it is not something you earn: truth, righteousness, faith, salvation. When we pray, we are to stand “clothed” in the victory of the cross. Pray with all kinds of prayers and requests for other people. Warfare is not just for you, it’s to war on behalf of others. And when you pray, use the Word of God, the sword of the Word is the best weapon to defeat the lies of the enemy.
Prayer: Lord, I stand against the attack of the enemy on my life, on the lives of my family members and friends. I ask you Father to rebuke the enemy from my life, in Jesus' name and help me to stand in your promises that are found in your Word.
KEY PRAYER POINT: PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING. PRAY FOR GOD TO BRING COMFORT AND STRENGTH AS THEY WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY.
