Philippians

DAY 17 OF 24

Paul uses the reference to citizenship here because to the people of Philippi, citizenship holds a high value with being Roman. They would be able to relate to the significance of having citizenship in a place far more desirable than anywhere here on earth; Heaven. Being a citizen of heaven reveals different aspects of who you are, from your identity, your core values, how you speak and how you act, and your idea of what your true home is. And while we wait here on earth for our eternity in heaven, the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us, transforming us into a new person to reflect these aspects of heavenly citizenship, preparing us for our place in heaven. The more we allow God to work in us to be more like Him, the more we’ll be able to exhibit that our true citizenship is not of this world, but with Him.

Prayer points:

  • Invite God to identify areas of your life that need transformation to become more like Christ.
  • Even though we live on earth, we know it’s not our home. Pray that God helps you live in a way that reflects that your citizenship is in heaven while you’re still here on earth.
