Philippians

DAY 4 OF 24

In this passage of scripture, Paul is writing from jail while there are people continuing his mission to spread the gospel. Some of these people have pure motives, while others are just trying to profit off of Paul’s ministry and take his place. However, Paul rejoices in both efforts. He isn’t concerned with their motives, as long as their message is the truth and is advancing the Kingdom of God.

Paul shows us that we can rejoice because it’s all used to glorify God, no matter the motives. He also shows us to be confident with where God has us and who he called us to be, rather than operating out of insecurity that someone else will take our place. Paul wasn’t threatened by these other people, and he continued to rejoice in their efforts. God was able to advance the Kingdom using Paul right where he was, and using others as well.

It can be easy to feel threatened or to compare when others step in our lane. It can be especially hard if we are in a season that feels stagnant, or a season where we feel stuck and unable to live out our calling. However, we can be confident of where God has us and recognize the efforts of others by rejoicing in their work for God. It’s important to remember God can use all of us, and He can use us right where we are in this season.

Prayer points:

  • Ask God to reveal your own motives to you and see if there’s anything you need to surrender to Him.
  • Pray for those that you feel have impure motives and ask God to help them, as well as your own heart towards them.
  • Ask God to give you confidence in who He has called you to be, and where He has you in this season.
