Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 8Sample

In Luke chapter 16, Jesus speaks about money in a very direct manner. It is interesting that Jesus refers to money as a master that we serve. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to surrender to the lordship of Jesus alone. Jesus sees money as potentially competing for the lordship in our lives.
This does not mean we should have no money and live a life of poverty, and this passage is also not meant for the rich only. What this means is that we should not put our trust in money but in God. We should not look to money as the source of happiness or even security.
The simplest and most tangible way to keep your heart surrendered to God and not to money is by being generous. The principle of tithing and living a generous life remind us to look to God first for joy and security.
