Fear

DAY 3 OF 5

Fear Less

Writer Marie Currie says quote “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”

So how do we understand more and fear less?

Decide that you won’t let fear hold you back. We can achieve excellence in our personal and professional life when we overcome fear. The best way to fight our fear is to never make a decision based on fear. Being afraid will only limit our potential and never allow us to discover excellence.

Decide that you will embrace your fears. Many people are unable to cope and overcome fear because they won’t admit their fears. It’s possible to take our fear, embrace it, and deal with it one step at a time. In this way our fear will not haunt us, so we won’t need to have an illusion of safety that makes us run away from a difficult situation.

Decide that you won’t let your feelings feed your fear. Feelings can fail us. This may sound odd, but we cannot trust our feelings all the time. Think about it? Feelings are necessary but feelings can be nebulous. And fear is one of those feelings. Fear is to be expressed, then eventually exchanged with the peace and the courage to move forward. Although we must not ignore our feelings of fear or tuck them away when they're needed most, we must never let our feelings control us. We have to be careful not to let our feelings of fear take over our faith.

Fear is often not even based on truth. It’s based on false expectations and assumptions that will likely not even occur. You’ve heard the clever acronym before that fear stands for “False - Evidence - Appearing - Real?” Whether you have or not, it's spot on. If fear is false evidence appearing real, then how does fear align with faith since faith is the evidence of real things not yet seen according to Hebrews 11:1-4. It doesn’t! The evidence fear offers is a facade, while the evidence faith provides is sure, based on divine promises. We have every reason to “faith” more and fear less.

Answer these questions and reflect on your answers:

Think of a time when you let your fear overrule your faith. What was the outcome?

Think of a time when you let your faith overrule your fear. What was the outcome?

Affirm and declare these statements:

I will no longer rehearse my fears.

I must relinquish fear and grab onto faith.

My faith is greater than my fear.

Pray in petition to God to pursue His will and way.
