Are you ready?

Expansion is a familiar word and an equally challenging concept. As Highlands, each year we spend this season focusing on God, His ever-expanding work in us, and the world we find ourselves in.

Expansion is a season centred on faith and generosity, which turns our eyes heavenward and outward as we learn more about loving God and loving people and making them a priority in our lives, hearts, and expectations. It’s like the founders of this Church, who envisioned that a lettuce field would one day grow so many souls towards heaven, or the mother who opened her home to other young mums when she was barely coping, only to find herself encouraged and stronger through their prayers. Or the young leader who had a heart for the young people of Highfields and started a youth group only to see it grow faster than he could recruit leaders (these are true stories from our community).

A few notes on the format of the plan:

1. This reading plan explores ideas and the challenges we may face as we lean into a season of Expansion. Take this month to stop, sit, read, meditate, pray, and act in this season of Expansion.

2. Each day has a list of associated scriptures. Try reading them before AND after you read the devotional. That way, you’ll hear God’s Word directly and be encouraged to reflect on it in new ways!

3. You'll hear a devotional for each week of the series preached throughout the month. Why not discuss with a friend or gather your small group to share how God and His Word are challenging and expanding you this season?

4. Each day includes some questions… don’t skip them! Pause. Reflect. Believe God wants to expand you!

ASK YOURSELF THIS: AM I READY TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS READING PLAN?

Setting the scene: Expansion season at Highlands used to be called 2C9, named after 2 Corinthians 9. Why? Because it’s a few verses that challenge a new church, smack bang in an unsaved culture, to be wildly generous, believing that God will provide. Let these words challenge and expand your heart this season and prepare for God to move. It’s important to remember that this season isn’t about us just trying harder in life. It’s about trusting God to move miraculously. Because in this busy life where we find ourselves in a changing world and this frustrating body we were given, we need Jesus to move miraculously, and He wants to.
