DAY 5 OF 14

How do you know you are loved by someone? Love shouldn't be hard to discern. One's actions, thoughts, and priorities should reflect what or who they love. When you are loved by someone, you experience their concern and care. You are comforted because they long for your good and work to provide it.

Jesus' prayer in today's passage shows just how much he loves his followers, living then and for generations to come. In the darkest moment of Jesus' life, his thoughts were for his followers — the people he came for and would give his life for. If you are a follower of Jesus, take heart. He was praying for you here in this passage. It's wild to think we were on Jesus' mind over 2,000 years ago, but hey — Jesus is God! Why not!

Here's something else that is incredible. Jesus is still praying for you. The Bible says that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf (Romans 8:34). The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groans too deep for words (Romans 8:26). Jesus and God are talking about you out of love for you.

What encouragement we have in this prayer! Jesus is for you, and he desires for you to be one with him as he is one with God. He prayed for his followers to be protected by the power of God, the same power that would raise Jesus from the dead. Now, that's love!
