God-Made

DAY 5 OF 5

When I think of the concept of being "self-made,” I don’t really think about a nice sports car or a big house.

When I think about being "self-made,” I remember when I had lost everything.

In a two-month period, my family and I were evicted from our apartment and had two cars repossessed. Somehow, my wife and I managed to scrape up $500 and purchase a small car. The car had no a/c, and it was not something that I was particularly happy for my wife and I to be stuck in.

That situation was self-made. Because of my actions, I experienced these things. My own choices nearly cost me my marriage. That was me following my plans, my decisions, relying on my own ability, and not allowing God into the equation. A “self-made” lifestyle led to these results.

Being self-made is fleeting. It will not stand the test of time. Like an intricate sandcastle, it may look better for some than others, but when the tide comes in, it will crumble just like the rest. God-made success is everlasting.

God-made success is abundant. He provides more than enough. Self-made success, however, is never enough. We’re always chasing for more, never feeling truly fulfilled or happy.

Why settle for waves of successful seasons when God wants to provide us with long-term, consistent success?

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t work hard and take the initiative needed to reach success. Instead, I’m saying that we should not be enticed by self-gratifying decisions and behaviors. Embracing true, God-made success leads to abundance and, perhaps more importantly, a lasting sense of inner peace.

It is He who knows what’s best, not us.

It is He who has already witnessed our journey carried out, not us.

It is He who knows what our potential is and He who knows how to unlock it.

We have to shirk our demand for control and our want for instant gratification.

Surrender them to God so that you may experience an abundant life, far from what we can create on our own.

We must let go of our limited understanding and allow God, who is unlimited, to lead us into a life of true fulfillment and abundant blessings.
