Lessons From JamesSample
DEVOTIONAL
Have you ever been in a situation where, whichever way you looked at it, there seemed to be no way out? Perhaps you’d been hopelessly lost on a walk, or you’d forgotten to review for a test and you had to wing it, or maybe you found yourself at the top of a rollercoaster with a fear of heights and only one way down.
These are slightly silly examples, but the book of James starts by telling us that we should consider every trial a joy (v.12), and making it through these trials will give us the energy to face whatever life throws at us. Sometimes we don’t feel ready to face what lies ahead - but the great news is that we are never alone. We can always trust God and pray to Him, and as God promised throughout the Bible, He will never leave us or forsake us. In other words, He is with us in the challenges and hardships of life.
God didn't call us to have an easy life - but the good news is he uses our most difficult times to refine us and make us more resilient disciples.
QUESTIONS
- Q: Can you think of any challenges you’ve faced in your life?
- Q: What lessons do you think God has taught you in those situations?
PRAYER
Father God, give me the wisdom to face whatever giants and obstacles I face today and help me to notice your goodness beside me. Let me be obedient to your ways now and forever more.
Amen
