DAY 6 OF 7

Beauty to Behold

“Mom, come out here,” my daughter called to me early one morning as she walked out the front door to await the school bus. The first snowfall had come, and although it wasn’t more than a light dusting, the trees and ground were covered.

“It’s beautiful,” she said as she looked around.

I stepped out on the porch and wrapped my sweatshirt more tightly around me. I followed her gaze to see the trees that lined the boulevard. Each limb glowed white against a sky just starting to lighten from the east.

“It is,” I said, breathing in the cool air.

We stood together for a few moments, looking in awe at the quiet scene all around us before the bus pulled up and I kissed her goodbye for the day. As I scurried back into the warmth of my house, I realized I would have missed the beauty of that morning without my daughter’s encouragement to step outside. I felt grateful to God for all the ways he shows us his love and creativity through creation.

It takes only a moment to stop and notice the splendor around us. But how many times do we miss it? So often, we can go through life, head down, thinking only of the task at hand or the to-do list for the day, but if we lift our eyes, we just might glimpse how the heavens display God’s glory and craftsmanship. On any given day, we can look outside and see what God has made—every season bringing its unique loveliness to earth.

His beauty is on display for all to see. There is no denying the wonder and the glory that is available to us if only we’ll take the time to stop and notice.
