DAY 14: A HEART FOR OTHERS

Read: Philippians 2:3; Hebrews 6:10; John 15:12-13; Romans 12:10; Mark 12:30-31

Our ability to develop a heart for others and properly model the love of Jesus requires humility. Embracing a posture of humility does not mean that we think less of ourselves, but that we think of ourselves less. We are called to be mindful of others and to serve those around us out of the gratitude in our hearts produced by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus’ life was the perfect example of humble service and sacrifice. He demonstrated His love for us by taking on human form, submitting to the will of the Father, and dying on the cross for our sake that we would be saved from the penalty of our own sins. That alone should be the motivation we need to humbly serve others and live a life that honors His sacrifice.

Over the next seven days, we will conclude our 21 days of prayer and fasting by walking out what it looks like to love like Jesus by developing a heart for others, specifically through spending time in prayer for others.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus, I humbly acknowledge that the grace that I have received from You is because of Your sacrifice on the cross. You willingly laid down Your life for me, so that I could be free from the penalty of sin. Help me to model the same sacrificial love in the way that I love and treat others. Cultivate within my heart a passion to serve those around me.

3. In Mark 12 we are called to “love your neighbor as yourself.” How does the way you view yourself impact your ability to love others?
