God, Me, and Us – Part ISample

God, Me, and Us – Part I

DAY 5 OF 5

The Call to Come: Finding Focus in Faith

Finding a sacred space for communion with God is a vital step toward spiritual growth. We saw that Jesus found a place to go pray after He fed the 5000 before He walked on water. I want to give you some practical steps, and some homework. I don’t want you to miss the importance of this spiritual discipline in your life. Jesus sets an example by seeking solitude to pray, teaching us the significance of dismissing life’s crowds to connect deeply with God.

The call to establish a personal space for prayer and reflection in our homes resonates profoundly. Just as we have designated areas for daily activities, creating a specific place for spending time with God can significantly enhance our spiritual journey. This physical space symbolizes our commitment to seeking Him first, as emphasized in Matthew 6:33, where Jesus urges us to prioritize the kingdom of God.

Author C. S. Lewis beautifully stated, “Put first things first and you get second things thrown in; put second things first and you lose both first and second things.” This wisdom underscores the importance of prioritizing our spiritual life. In doing so, we not only nourish our relationship with God; we find that other aspects of our lives fall into place.

Here is a simple yet powerful step: choose a chapter from the Bible and immerse yourself in it. For example, go back and read Matthew 6 or 14. You will find it very beneficial to observe the way Jesus interacts with others, Himself, and God.

When distractions end, worship begins. The disciples, after witnessing Jesus’ authority over the storm, worshipped Him, recognizing His divinity. This act of worship, free from distraction, is what we are called to emulate. Peter, who was able to walk on water amid the storm because of his focus on Jesus, serves as a powerful testament to what we can achieve when our attention is firmly fixed on God.

Before you go back to work, finish your coffee, or get ready for the day, sit with God and ask Him to help you stay focused on Him today. He wants to help you. Truthfully, we cannot stay focused on Him without His help. He is that good to us. He’s that good to you.
