Walk HumblySample
Job lived a righteous life before God, and still he suffered immense loss and agony. And through his experiences, he learned how to walk humbly with God. In Job’s story, we get a very intimate view into one man’s wrestling match with God. Rather than attempting to judge what is “fair” within our limited perspective, Job learned to humbly trust in God’s justice. We can learn a lot from him about how to engage with God through our experiences of suffering.
Job never pretends to know what he doesn’t. He also doesn’t hide his questions or the depths of his pain. He talks openly with his friends, his family, and, most importantly, with his God. In the passage you are going to read today, you will see just how dark his depths became and just how honest he was in expressing his pain to God. Like Job, when you find yourself overcome by evil and suffering in the world, God wants you to turn to him – even if it is just to dump your pain on him. He can handle it.
Reflection Questions:
In Job 7, Job doesn’t shy away from expressing his pain. Is there something painful in your life that you need to be honest about with yourself or with God? If so, bring it to God.
Job speaks to God honestly regarding his disappointment that God hasn’t yet intervened. This is called lament. How did you feel reading that?
