Discipling the Next GenerationSample

LEADING THROUGH OUR INSECURITIES
We all desire to walk in confidence and authority. But for each of us, in at least some areas of our lives, we can struggle with insecurities. As we want to disciple the next generation, many of us can have fears and insecurities in doing so.
We all face insecurities We can ask ourselves questions like:
- “Do I measure up?”
- “Do I have what it takes to lead?”
- “Am I too old?”
- “Am I too young & inexperienced?”
- “Do I measure up to so and so?”
At its root, an insecurity problem is an identity problem. The more disconnected you are from God the more you struggle with your identity.
One of the greatest examples of insecurity in the Bible is the story of Moses. When God called Moses to deliver the Israelites from captivity, he responded in insecurity.
Exodus 3:9-11 (NIV) 9 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
Insecurity is caused by a misunderstanding of your identity.
So what is your identity? Your identity is who God says you are. And this is who God says you are:
- I am God’s child (1 John 3:2)
- I am loved by Christ (Revelation 1:5)
- I am forgiven of all my sins (Ephesians 1:7)
- I am made right with God (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- I am accepted in Christ (Ephesians 1:6)
- I am holy without blame before Him (Ephesians 1:4)
- I am called by God (2 Timothy 1:9)
- I am complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10)
- I am dead to sin & alive to God in Jesus (Romans 6:2 & Romans 6:11)
- I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
- I am free from all condemnation (Romans 8:1)
- I am the salt of the earth & the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14)
As you disciple the next generation, lead out of this identity!
God’s response to Moses' insecurity -- and his response to our insecurity -- is that he will be with us.
Exodus 3:12 (NIV) And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
God doesn’t just work around your insecurities - he works through them.
QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF: Remember, we all have insecurities. What are insecurities that you have that God wants to work in and through?
