Guaranteed Rest
Thus says the LORD: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls." JEREMIAH 6:16 ESV
What path did you walk today? Think back on the people you interacted with, the words that came out of your mouth, and the thoughts that passed through your mind. Did you walk the good path? The path that finds rest for your soul? How are you feeling this evening, and what does it say about the choices you made today? Oftentimes, we spend our days running down a path that leaves us exhausted and depleted. We give everything in us for the demands of life and leave nothing for our heavenly Father. What God asks us to give isn’t always easy or without pain or sacrifice, but He does promise His path ultimately leads to rest. What is keeping you going down the path that leads to exhaustion? Maybe the promise of a big job promotion. Or maybe you feel stuck in a cycle of pleasing people. Whatever distracts you from walking the path God has laid for you, leave it behind this evening and step into a new day tomorrow, ready to walk the path that leads to rest.
Lord God, thank You for offering me rest. I know I often run myself ragged and forget that You know what's best for me. Help me to believe that the peace and rest You have for me will completely satisfy me. Give me the confidence to walk Your path - to make choices all day long that honor You. Tonight, forgive me for the times that I chose my own way today. Please strengthen me for the day ahead. Help me to rest in You tonight. Amen.
