Big Feelings Days: A 5-Day Devotional About Hard Things, Heavy Emotions, and Jesus' Love - for Parents and the Big Feelings Kids They Love

DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: Learning to Forgive

Talk about It with Your Kids

  • Have you ever had big feelings after someone did something that hurt you or made you mad? What was that like?
  • What happens if we stay mad at people when they hurt us or make us mad? What do you think Jesus wants us to do when someone hurts us?

Practice It

It can be hard to forgive someone after they have done something that causes us to feel big feelings. Think about something that someone did that led to you feeling mad or sad. Write down what made you sad or mad on a piece of paper, such as “my toy was broken” or “my feelings were hurt by the unkind name that my friend called me.” Then crumple up the piece of paper, close your eyes, and imagine Jesus healing the hurt in your heart. Do like the Bible says and get rid of any anger or bitterness. Maybe you can throw the crumpled paper in the trash can like a basketball if your grown-up says it is okay.
