REST: Living Anxiety-Free in an Anxiety-Full WorldSample
Faith as the Antidote to Anxiety
In this first part, we delve into the prevalent anxiety in our world and the impact of media on our minds. Through the lens of John 14:1, discover the key antidote to anxiety—faith in God and Jesus. Learn how cultivating this faith can elevate your spirit above distress.
This world we live in is full of anxiety and anxious people. The news we receive daily further fuels our anxiety. It seems as though we were born to be anxious. The media platforms do not help in any way; you simply can not turn on your TV or some social media platform without seeing or receiving information that throws you into an ocean of anxiety and worry. For most people, almost every conversation they have has some anxiety triggers in it.
But how do we live anxiety-free in this world full of anxiety?
The answer is in the Word of God.
Our Lord Jesus foresaw that anxiety will keep growing in the hearts of people because of the troubles of daily life. He gave one of the most important antidotes to anxiety in John 14:1: “Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me." Clearly, Jesus was saying to the disciples and by implication to everyone, that the way to live above anxiety and heart distress is to have faith in Him and God.
Our faith is our ticket out of the bondage that anxiety brings. Once we believe in God and His love towards us, we can be certain that all our worries and cares are but nothing. We must daily learn to cast our cares on Him- this is an act of faith. It takes faith to believe that God cares for you and will watch over you. It also takes faith to believe that He is never weary of carrying you when you are down and carrying your burdens when you cast them at His feet.
We must no longer look at the world and its failures and evils; rather, we must come to Jesus Christ in faith, daily seeking the abundant rest that He has for all who come to Him in faith and absolute trust, for He has said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
