Shame is a weapon, which means we must fight against it. Every day we are in a spiritual battle and spiritual warfare does not show favoritism or partiality. We are all open to attack at some point, like it or not. Your life is a gift from God, but you are also a walking target for the enemy, the one who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But there is good news! The Bible reminds us that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Jesus has overcome the darkness of shame, and you can stand on the words the prophet Isaiah spoke: “no weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17 nkjv).
Notice, the weapons won’t prosper—but that doesn’t mean they won’t form!
God has given us the tools and guidance on how to do this through His living Word. He has given us our opponent’s playbook. We have a cheat sheet! Satan has no new tricks since his first appearance in the Bible. As a matter of fact, he is a one-trick pony. The only power that he has is the power that we give him through our own inability, indifference, or straight-up refusal to open our spiritual eyes.
The evil one has a strategy. He will convince you to do something contrary to God’s will and then will accuse you afterward, so you experience shame. He watches you and knows how you move, what makes you tick, what you most desire, your inclinations and sensitivities. He has a whole report on you for the purpose of knocking you down to prevent you from finishing your race. . . .
Friend, the enemy will use whoever and whatever to draw you away from God, and you’ll find yourself naked and ashamed.
Shame was ushered into the human experience through the gratification of fleshly desires, and Paul gives us the anecdote: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
We must walk in the Spirit.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for conquering the enemy, and thank You for giving me the Spirit to walk by. Amen.
