Rediscovering Purpose as a Public ServantSample
Have you ever gone through a phase in your life where the things that previously inspired you to wake up with enthusiasm in the morning no longer seem to exist? You may have started questioning whether you were losing your purpose and passion for your job. This may have felt like depression, even if you've never felt it before. The daily routine that once filled you with energy and excitement may have started to feel like it was draining you, making you feel confused and tired.
The prophet Isaiah writes in Isaiah 40:31 (NIV):
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
It is normal to feel exhausted at times. We all have a lot of responsibilities to fulfill, both personally and professionally, which can drain our energy. However, we should be careful not to let negative thoughts distract us from God’s plan for our lives. When we focus too much on our emotions and negative feelings, we can become depressed and lose our sense of purpose. Instead, we should focus on serving others and being a positive influence in the world.
During these challenging times, we must turn to God for guidance and support. Even though it may seem difficult, God is the ultimate source of our strength. At times, we might not feel like praying or reading the word, and even if we do, we may not see immediate results. This can be disheartening, but we must remember that the Lord “is the same yesterday and today and forever” Hebrews 13:8 (NIV). “He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV).
Remember that the same God who guided you toward your desired profession is the same God who will be with you in times of need. You can always lean on Him for support. Ask Him to renew your spirit and passion within you. Inquire of Him, "Lord, who can I help today? Who have you placed in my life for me to lead to your light? Who will you put in my path today, even for a moment, for me to bless?"
