Day 2: Love God With All Your Heart

The human heart is a pretty important organ. Other than the cornea, every cell in the human body gets blood from your heart. Yet, as long as it has oxygen, the heart can continue to beat for 3-5 minutes, even when it is disconnected from the body. All the heart is dependent upon is oxygen, but almost every cell within our body depends on the heart to function.

At one point in time, the heart was thought to be the center of all thought processes, not the brain. So, over time, the heart has become a picture of our feelings—some common sayings include: “Follow your heart,” or “They wear their heart on their sleeve.”

The New Testament was originally written in Greek. The Greek word used for “heart” in Matthew 22 is related to the center of our physical and spiritual life, meaning that loving God with our heart is putting Him at the center of our being and our character and acknowledging Him as something we need to function properly.

There is no pressure added to this statement; it is not a “do this or else…” statement. It is a statement from a loving father to His children, not only letting us know that we need Him to function properly but also that He desires to live in close relationship with us. He desires a genuine relationship with YOU! This starts with loving God with all your heart!

People we are in relationships with see all of us—the good, the bad, and the ugly. God wants just that; invite Him in.
