Walking by Faith One Day at a TimeSample
Treasure Inside
A dear friend gave me an unexpected gift one day. When I first opened the package, I was delighted to find a little wooden plaque shaped like an apple. It had the following words engraved on the front: "The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, JOY, PEACE (Gal. 5:22)".
I was blessed by my friend's thoughtfulness and her little reminder about the fruit of the Spirit. When I got home, I laid the trinket on my nightstand until I could find it a more permanent home.
A few days later, I picked up the wooden plaque and began to admire the thoughtfulness of my sweet friend. As I turned the plaque over in my hands, I noticed a separation in the wood along the sides. To my surprise the plaque opened. Inside was an unexpected treasure, two mirrors, one on either side.
My plaque wasn't a plaque at all! It was a compact mirror for my purse.
If I had set the item on a table somewhere and only admired the outside, I would have completely missed the practical, intended purpose of my gift.
The Bible is God's gift to us. It is living and active and offers practical applications for our everyday lives.
Like my little wooden plaque, an unopened Bible is nothing more than a decorative piece collecting dust in our home.
God has hidden wonderful treasures in His Word for us to find. But if we never crack open the manuscript and explore the pages of Scripture we will never receive and experience the riches God has for us.
The next time you walk past your Bible, pick it up and think about the One who preserved and protected this priceless treasure. Thank Him for His unbelievable love and thoughtfulness, for the wonderful gift of His Word, the greatest love story ever told. Open your prized possession and discover its true intended purpose for your life.
The Bible is not a piece to be admired on a shelf. It's a treasure to be opened and enjoyed.
Life Application
How often do you spend time reading your Bible? If you are eager to hear from God and want direction for your life, the best place to go is where He has already spoken everything we need to know.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for your Word. It is a lamp to my feet and light to my world. Lead me to the treasures you have for me today. Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. Tell me great and unsearchable things I do not know. Help me to see wonderful things in your law. Amen
About this Plan
Walking by faith is the essence of our journey with God. He wants us to keep our eyes fixed on Him, trusting Him to lead us step-by-step and day-by-day. When we can't see ahead, we must listen for God's direction and rely entirely on His lead. The Lord goes before us and will get us where we need to go.
