5 Devotions to Pursue Your God-Given GoalsSample
No Instant Success
There is a battle waging inside you for the fulfillment of a dream. It’s between what you want now and what you want most. The now-most battle could determine how painful the wait is between your current circumstance and your future success.
Now is easy. It’s all about making you happy no matter what. Have that extra slice of cake or buy those new shoes you don’t need. Just push the button and feel good. We live in a microwave society that wants everything now. The problem is we don’t have to wait for some things that took a long time just a few years ago. Fast food and online shopping have replaced slow-cooked meals and window-shopping. Instant gratification is not just an option; it’s an expectation.
Most is hard. It’s about letting go of comfort in the present so you will be ready in the future. It’s about sacrificing. It may feel like you’re losing something right now, but you will win the war for your dream in the long run.
When it comes to the dream God has placed in your heart, you will be disappointed if you expect it to happen all at once. It’s a matter of perspective. When you see someone else succeed, you get a glimpse of their highlight reel. A friend can tell you in five short minutes what took six long months to live out. Don’t believe the lie that fulfillment is quick.
Remember that God is faithful. It may seem like your dream won’t ever happen, but he’s not being slow. He’s being deliberate. His timing is always best, and his answer is always right. Why? Because he loves you and wants the best for you.
In order to stay on course for the dream that God has placed in your heart, there will be many now-most battles. Discipline yourself to want most instead of now. Don’t stop to take what’s in front of you right now if it means not staying on track for what you want most.
What is something that seemed to take forever to happen in your life, but when you look back, it happened at just the right time?
